About the participant: 

Nicolaas A. Kraft van Ermel is historian and activa as an expert of Russia and Ukraine. As a historian he specializes in Russian, Ukrainian and Polish contemporary history (post 1945 – present). He is affiliated as staff member to the Netherlands-Russia Center of the University of Groningen. The Netherlands-Russia Center works on the bounderies of science, culture and economy.

In his research he deals with a variety of themes concerning the use and misuse of history in Russia, Ukraine and Poland, relations between church and state and the church history of Orthodox Christianity. He graduated in 2011 with a thesis that united these three themes in one conceptual framework. Since 2012 he focuses his work on themes like the political and economical relations between Russia and the Netherlands (and Europe).

Other subjects that feature sporadically in his publications and other activities are information and communication technology and also secondary interests like rail and tramways.
